Purpose

The Punta Arenas Satellite Station, operated by SSC Space Scandinavia, offers a unique capability in the southern hemisphere, complementing the services provided by the KSAT Antarctica ground station, Troll. This station is strategically located to support satellite missions that require coverage in the far southern latitudes, providing essential tracking, telemetry, and command (TT&C) services. Its location allows for continuous and reliable communication with satellites operating in polar and low Earth orbits, which is crucial for missions that pass over this remote region. In combination with the KSAT Troll Station in Antarctica, the Punta Arenas Satellite Station enhances global satellite coverage and data acquisition capabilities. Together, these stations provide an extensive and uninterrupted network of ground support for satellites in southern polar orbits. This dual coverage ensures that data from scientific missions, Earth observation satellites, and other space missions are consistently received and processed, facilitating accurate and timely information for a range of applications, from climate monitoring to space exploration.
