ISRO Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network

Date Built:

September 1976

Type

Communication

Purpose

Tracking, commanding and housekeeping data acquisition as well as health analysis and control, orbit and attitude determination and network co-ordination support to all low Earth orbit satellite missions of ISRO throughout their mission life. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC) is an essential infrastructure dedicated to supporting ISRO's satellite missions and launch vehicle operations. ISTRAC provides comprehensive telemetry, tracking, and command (TTC) services, ensuring the successful monitoring and control of satellites and launch vehicles throughout their missions. The network collects and processes real-time data from these space assets, enabling mission control to monitor their health and status, assess performance, and ensure mission success. It also tracks the position and trajectory of satellites and launch vehicles, providing accurate information necessary for orbit determination and mission planning. Additionally, ISTRAC facilitates the transmission of commands from mission control to satellites and launch vehicles, allowing operators to perform critical operations such as orbit adjustments, payload management, and system reconfigurations. During the launch phase, ISTRAC plays a pivotal role by providing real-time tracking and telemetry support from lift-off to orbit insertion, ensuring precise tracking and guidance. The network also supports the acquisition and distribution of scientific and mission data to various user agencies and research organizations, which is essential for applications in Earth observation, climate monitoring, disaster management, and communication services. ISTRAC's extensive network of ground stations, strategically located across India and around the world, provides global coverage for ISRO's space missions. This ensures continuous communication with satellites, enhancing the reliability and efficiency of mission operations. By providing critical telemetry, tracking, and command functions, ISTRAC supports the successful deployment and operation of India's space assets, advancing space research and delivering valuable services to society.
